Their Story, as told by Danielle: Jac and I met in early spring, 8 years ago this April. I was finishing up my second year of grad school in my new home, Austin, Texas. She was fresh out of college, having played softball at Texas. One of the things I missed the most about the west coast was the snow and the nostalgic feeling I get up in the mountains upon every visit. So it's no surprise that as soon as the Texas weather turned cold the following winter, I took her away with me to Colorado for a snow-filled vacation in the mountains. I learned before going on the trip, that her only experience in the snow, were ski trips with her family as a kid. Well, I was a snowboarder and felt it was time for her to learn a new skill ;).
We got to the mountain and Jac asked me what happens next. I strapped her feet on the board and said "get on the lift." With a puzzled and frankly, horrified look, she willingly trusted me and got on the lift with blind faith. We rode up the lift at Copper Mountain, myself excited about finally being back on the mountain and sharing the weekend with a girl I absolutely adored, and her, probably fear of what I had gotten her into. When we could see the top of the lift I told her, "Put your other foot on the board and balance and you will be just fine, I will be right there with you."
We stood up to get off the lift and I panicked, wondering if I did the right thing to just throw her in head first. I grabbed onto her and took us both down! Whoops. After a few moments of rolling around on the ground, trying to hide our embarrassment from everyone around, we laughed.
Laughing is what Jac and I do best and the reason we share such a deep bond, love and devotion. No matter what comes our way, what challenge we face or what adventure we choose, we do it with tons of laughs and a maybe a beer or two.
I knew from that first day on the mountain, Colorado was going to be our getaway, and our adventure for many years to come. This is why we took our best friends to Colorado and asked them to witness us ride up as 2 and snowboard down as 1. Our wedding on the top of the mountain looking down at the snow-filled valley, proclaiming our love with our best friends to witness, was the best thing we have done together yet and we can't wait for all of our future adventures together.
